Storage and inventory system
The ability to now design and produce their own test rolls, taking the process from
weeks to a day. In addition, they were now a redundancy center equipped to answer
emergency out of stock issues if needed.
• Construction of an internal production center
We brought in and worked with a workstation construction firm that designed a
custom production area that included:
- Custom PC workstations
- Label printers with built-in redundancy
- Raw material inventory storage
- Finished good storage and distribution setup
We worked with the customer to develop SOPs that outlined how the work center
would be operated.
A transition plan was developed for how to move from the current supplier to their
internal production program.
OUTCOMES
• Significant reduction in non-value-added steps in the process
• Reduction of 270+ barcode part numbers to track to 16 varying size raw stock rolls
• The customer now had control of their production process and inventory on hand
• Better planning and visibility in the production process
• Production became scalable based on customer requirements
• Reduced product waste
• Minimized risk of downtime for the production cells that use the labels
