SITUATION A West Michigan original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for the auto industry invited Imperial Graphics in to evaluate their maintenance, repair, operation (MRO) and direct label programs. Until we had met and shared our approach to the application and process, they admitted they'd given their label program and the supplier little thought. When they gave it attention and asked around, feedback said the current supplier was cost competitive and mostly met expectations. The supplier was rarely late, always available to take on their frequent rush orders, and helped them put out fires. Through learning sessions, our team heard the following: • Their supplier had been on autopilot with them for a long time. • With cost being the first evaluation metric mentioned, their relationship with their supplier was outdated and lacking value. CASE STUDY | Pg.1 Rush orders and fires can be symptoms of an issue in the process. A root cause analysis may reveal options to alleviate the stress these situations put on your teams.
