A SOLUTION THAT STICKS 5 Steps to Greater Efficacy and an Improved Bottom Line SITUATION A large, well-known auto supplier had been working with a label provider for more than 20 years. Once in a while, a late delivery. From time to time, a defective product. Overall, they had no complaints. At least they didn't think so… The auto supplier's purchasing team was intrigued with Imperial's "More Than Print" approach and process. They were not solely focused on lowering pricing so they asked our team to look at process efficiencies, application improvements and more. The company's corporate culture supported change and the purchasing department was progressive in its vendor management. Refreshing! With three divisions and more than 20 physical locations, we mutually decided that it would be more manageable to apply our process to one division in a couple of locations. PUTTING OUR PROCESS TO WORK Our More Than Print process comprises five steps that enable us to methodically and efficiently learn a business and the impact of our products and services within. We mapped the journey of their labels from initial demand, to procurement, to inventory management and distribution, and finally, to application. We also conducted learning sessions with key individuals from the office and production floor, which allowed us to create a current condition map that revealed gaps and inefficiencies. THE ISSUE AT HAND As we uncovered the issues, one, in particular, caught our eye. In the current condition, there was a work-in-process label used as each product made its journey through the production facility. These labels were color coded a different color for each month of the year. Every month there was a system changeover at the printer location that included partial labels and full rolls that would then be placed in storage for 11 months. With more than 400 printers, this process screamed inefficient. CASE STUDY | Pg.1 communicate@morethanprint.com | www.morethanprint.com | 855.818.3405
