BUILDING A SOLUTION
Because it is important to understand how change would impact all parties involved, we met with team
members and conducted learning sessions to better understand what the color coding meant and
represented to the people on the floor.
We developed the idea to replace the color coding with alphanumeric visual indicators. APR, and not
the color of the month, would represent April, and be printed with the other variable information on blank
labels. We requested an audience with the company's director of IT to discuss the proposed change and
confirm feasibility. With a small dimension change of the label, we were given the thumbs up.
We set up a test environment, provided the new labels, and worked closely with IT onsite as they
calibrated test equipment to get the updated labels produced. It's important that we test our
applications prior to rolling out in the live environment because a faulty product could impair production.
Our next process step was to put together a formal document outlining our research, current condition
mapping, issues identified, solutions tested, ROI analysis, and onboarding steps.
