THE ISSUE AT HAND This is what we love about applying our More Than Print process – rather than applying the standard "iron triangle" industry solution (Do it faster, better, and cheaper), we look for the root cause of the pain. We met with the leadership team to review the issues that we had uncovered. We make sure that we collaborate with our clients and that all involved are on board with what issues to tackle and solutions to pursue. Of the issues presented, we identified a key stressor was their process around inventory management and distribution. BUILDING A SOLUTION With our focus set on the inventory management and distribution issue, we brought in our own internal subject matter experts on lean practices and logistics. We put them at the table with stakeholders at the institute to start mapping a new target condition flow map. The end solution comprised Imperial cataloging and transitioning all material management from the institute into our warehouse. All items would be established in our system with minimum reorder points, which nicely eliminated out of stock issues. Institute users would have access to our online systems with visibility to quantity on hand and the ability to send orders anywhere in the world. Since many of the materials would be reused for other fundraising events, all shipments were sent with prepaid return labels back to the Imperial warehouse. We would manage inspection of all received items for damage and would return them to warehouse for future use.
