THE ISSUE AT HAND Focusing on the order start allowed us to learn about the current shipping label and packing slip process. The PSI printers used to print and load packing slip documents had run their course, and the customer's team was hoping to eliminate them altogether. The question to Imperial was, how could this be done? We vetted the needs more extensively in order to move to the diagnose and design step, which is our way of building a solution. BUILDING A SOLUTION We researched, consulted with, and brought to the table third party subject matter experts, allowing us to collaborate solutions with the customer's team. One of our SMEs owns multiple patents on the label products we were exploring, which allowed us to bring true experience and value to our customer. We prepared a proof of concept that presented multiple vetted options, pros and cons, ROI analysis, and our recommended target condition. Our solution offered the following advantages to the customer's current condition: • Fast and easy one-step shipping • An increase to 25 boxes labeled per minute • Less expensive label costs than another option under consideration • ROI on equipment in less than one year per location • Equipment ready for immediate shipment • Reduced labor for changeovers due to rolls of 2,500 labels (vs. current rolls of 2,000) • Eliminate errors: Guaranteed matching of the packing slip information to the shipping label • Less material needed: only one label per carton • Paper packing slips eliminated, removing the need for PSI equipment, which could be decommissioned The customer team told us that we educated them and presented solutions they had not previously considered. The value of this service could not be understated. Our analysis included a chart showing the increase in value over the following four years.
